![]() There’s also a video called “5 games I’d recommend to new speedrunners” or something, you can watch that too if you wantĮdit: I now realize you said you want to learn them in about 3 days, sorry, none of these can easily be learned that fast, they’re still fun though, so maybe give yourselves about a week or two instead? And since you said this game was your first choice, I couldn't recommend a more appropriate game to start with.Ĭlustertruck (first person parkour game where you run on the backs of trucks) (~50 minutes, with few deaths), Celeste (2D platformer where you can dash up, down, left and right, as well as diagonally, this mechanic can be used in a lot of ways to get way more speed than normal) (~1 hour, but it can be more or less depending on how many ways you use the dash mechanic, and how often, as well as how many times you die), Dead Cells (2D rogelite combat based game with 3 weapon types, each one with various risk/reward) (also if you die at any point you start over, don’t worry though, you have a health flask that restores 60% hp and refills after every level and as you play you get more uses) (~40 to 50 minutes) is filled to the brim with resources and guides for SM64. There's a ton of others that I haven't even played yet and they usually match or exceed the expectations of the original game. Super Mario Star Road, SM74, The Green Stars, or even SM74 Extreme Edition if you're feeling masochistic enough. You could also include the many SM64 romhacks that are available into the mix as they prove to be very competent speed games by themselves. Being able to consistently do dustless dives after playing for a few months is so satisfying. It's almost addicting to improve your records, you feel yourself getting faster and your movements become more seamless. Not to mention the game is practically built for speedrunning: You have all these small objectives that can be focused on individually, and they stitch together into a very intense and satisfying run. I learned the beginner's route in a day and slowly improved on it by practicing the tricks that were previously too hard to do consistently, and you'd be surprised at how easy it is to work your way up with a little practice. It only requires a handful of strats to learn and most of them can be replaced with easier ones if needed, and an average run takes less than 30 minutes to complete. SM64 16 star seems to be really popular for newcomers.
